To celebrate fall one must embrace all things-PUMPKIN! That includes dog treats too, which is great because pumpkin can be great for your dogs digestion and will help keep them regular. But please remember that moderation is the key to keeping everyone happy. Here’s a helpful tip I found in regards to feeding pumpkin to your dog,
“This festive gourd is a miracle food for dogs. Good for both diarrhea and constipation, canned pumpkin (not raw, not the sugary, spicy pie filling) is loaded with fiber and beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A. Don’t give Buddy a lot of it—too much A is highly toxic to dogs—but a couple of teaspoons a day for little pups, or a couple of tablespoons for big boys, should keep them right on track.” –http://bit.ly/1S04VLW
I was thrilled when I found an easy 5 ingredient pumpkin dog treat recipe on Pinterest, link here. And guys, it was super easy!!
Here’s what I used; most of the items I already had so after going to the store to get peanut butter and canned pure pumpkin I spent less than $5 on dog treats!! And guys $5 made A LOT of tasty canine treats. 🙂
Now it’s time to start making the treats, the dogs were getting restless.
Alright let’s get to it… step 1: put the peanut butter, eggs, and pumpkin into the mixer
Mix the ingredients together until the mixture is nice and smooth. Then it’s time for step 2: add the flour and a tiny bit of salt the final mixture should look a bit like the picture below.
To be honest I had to add a little extra flour because the original mixture was too thin. So after adding flour, it was time to make the biscuits!! I didn’t have cutesy cookie cutters so I went the ol’ fashioned way and pressed a fork into the dough to make my design. I heard no complaints from the peanut gallery.
After making the treats pretty and presentable I put them in the oven for 40 minutes (20 minutes per side) and voila!! I let them cool for a bit before finally, it was time to feed the creatures.
The verdict was in… these treats were a HIT!! They are easy, cheap, nutritious, and delicious (according to Zeus, Alvin, and Hazel.) So if you’re looking for a healthy fall tasty treat for your best four-legged buddy please do give this one a try, it’s not only yummy for the dogs but it leaves the house smelling yummy too!
Final and most important review is from Zeus,
Two enthusiastic paws up!
